Kelly Clark

My name is Kelly Clark. I am a paralegal, wife and mother of two. I had RNY Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass on February 17, 2010 at Mather Hospital with Dr. Arif Ahmad. I am maintaining a 163 pound weight loss and I feel wonderful! I went from a size 26 to a size 6. Every time I say it, I want to pinch myself. It is truly a dream come true.

I was not always overweight. I started gaining weight in my twenties and continued to steadily gain all through my thirties. No matter how many diets I tried, I could not keep the weight off. I would lose 40 pounds and gain back 60. I felt like a failure. I was caught in a vicious cycle of failing diets and self loathing. Every morning was a fight with the closet and the mirror. It got to the point that I did not want to see my reflection. I felt guilty and ashamed and hated myself for failing yet again.

When I first heard about weight loss surgery I rejected the idea. I thought it was the “wrong way” to lose weight. I should just be stronger and try harder. When I finally decided to seriously consider weight loss surgery I did a lot of research and spent two years flopping back and forth before I decided it was right for me. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Not only did I lose the weight but along the way I gained so much more. I gained perspective.

I found the person inside me who had been beaten down. She was hiding behind the self hatred and fear. I learned to accept and love myself - to realize that I am worth it. I am just as important as everyone else and I do matter. Although I am not perfect, I am perfectly me. It has been almost three years since I started the journey and I have come so far but I also realize that there is still so much further to go, but I am no longer afraid of the journey. Now, I love it and look forward to what tomorrow will bring.

I am so excited and truly honored to be a part of LIPO and the leadership team. I look forward to helping the organization and supporting its members and receiving.
